Beinn Dubhchraig - January 2011

Pick of the Month

Taken by Andy on Beinn Dubhchraig's summit ridge on a day with strong bitterly cold winds.

The picture could be titled 'The Three Wise Men' -

but that's open to debate!

Hi Lisa
thanks for contacting The Moray Club - apologies for delay in replying.

You are more than welcome to join us. We are based in and around the Glasgow/Stirling area.
We do not have joining fees.

Bit of background - our blog shows that we are a small active club that does different activities - hillwalking/mountaineering is the main focus.

We were formed some 40+ years ago and have explored most of the nooks and crannies in Scotland.
The 'Moray Club' was named after The Moray Sea School at Burghead, this merged with Outward Bound Loch Eil.
We no longer have active Outward Bound connections but still retain our name!

Our group have a great deal of hill knowledge but as always it's 'safety first' - this doesn't mean we don't have adventures!

We have evolved an informal structure which works well for our small group.

Most weekends a day trip is arranged with a couple of days notice, and takes into account expected weather conditions.
We do cancel/change plans if the hill weather is poor.
Occasionally we plan weekend trips which can be camping, or we hire a house between us.
An annual dinner is held in Novemeber/December usually a house or hotel in a different hill area.
We also hold an annual 'Burns Weekend' - last time we hired a farmhouse in Newtonmore.

If you are intersted in coming out with us I'd suggest you reply to this email with a contact number and we'll phone you next time we are going out.
This would be to arrange a meeting point on the way to the hill.

Regards
Bill

Hi Bill,
Thanks for getting back to me. I live in Moray and assumed that you would be based in the area. What a shame that you’re not as you sound like such a fun and dynamic club. Our local club was less than welcoming when I approached them– hence the reason I looked elsewhere. Perhaps next time you’re in the North West highlands or the Cairngorms, let me know and I could chum along?
All the best
Lisa
