Arrival on Skye
With a 'too good to be true' forecast it was with a certain amount of apprehension that five sea kayakers made their way to Skye on Thursday night.
Andy, Elizabeth & Bill were joined by Ian & Alan from DCKC.
After fish 'n chips washed down with a bottle of red in the Broadford hotel bar, then meeting up with Ian & Alan, it was time to turn in; we had an early start in the morning.
Our overnight base was Ashaig Campsite near Broadford, a low key site, not in the least commercialised.
Just love the owners philosophy;
What we are: Informal, rural, small, quiet, unspoilt, friendly and relaxed. What we are not: Well manicured, formally laid out, lively, a corporate enterprise.
Suitable for: People who enjoy the outdoors and want to get a good nights sleep. Unsuitable for: Groups who wish to stay up late partying, and people who are wanting 'posh'Long may it remain this way.
At £4 pppn (with an honesty box too!) this is what we want.
Our early morning alarm call, apart from Alan's snoring that is, was Snipe 'drumming' around 4am.
Then we had the dawn chorus including Cuckoo......
After a cold night we had a magnificent sunrise at 6.30.
If you've a tide to catch, you'll get up early!
